The 1995 trial of former American football star O.J. Simpson became one of the most famous criminal trials in history. Simpson was accused of murdering his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles. The prosecution presented DNA evidence, blood evidence and other forensic material, while the defence challenged the handling of evidence and raised allegations of police misconduct and racism. After months of televised proceedings, the jury found Simpson not guilty of murder. In a later civil trial, he was found liable for the deaths and ordered to pay damages. The criminal verdict remains one of the most debated in modern legal history.
