The words “conspiracy theory” can immediately make people think of some of the wildest claims on the internet, but history has also shown that governments, companies and individuals have sometimes genuinely conspired to hide information or mislead the public.
That makes it interesting to ask where we should draw the line between healthy scepticism and believing something simply because it sounds suspicious.
The internet has made this even more complicated. A theory can spread around the world within hours, with photographs, videos and supposed evidence being analysed by thousands of people. Sometimes this uncovers something worth questioning, while other times important context is missing or misinformation becomes accepted as fact.
I think one of the most interesting parts of discussing conspiracy theories is looking at the evidence rather than automatically accepting or dismissing the claim.

Do you think there are conspiracy theories being discussed today that could eventually turn out to contain some truth? And what would it take to convince you that a theory was actually credible?
