Between 1968 and 1969, three women Patricia Docker, Jemima McDonald and Helen Puttock were murdered in Glasgow. All three had visited the Barrowland Ballroom before their deaths, and police came to believe the same man may have been responsible. The unidentified suspect became known as Bible John after a witness said he had repeatedly quoted from the Bible during a taxi journey. Helen Puttock’s sister had travelled in the taxi with Helen and the man, providing police with one of the strongest descriptions of the suspect. Despite one of Scotland’s largest murder investigations, Bible John was never conclusively identified. Over the decades several men have been suggested as possible suspects, including convicted killer Peter Tobin, but no theory has ever been definitively proven.
