If he's the person I'm thinking of, he jumped out of a plane with a load of money, I believe a little bit of the money was recovered but he himself and the money was never recovered.

I think jumping out of the plane probably killed him, if I remember right from the little reading up of it that I did years ago,he didn't have a working parachute, I may have remembered that wrong.
